The very last chapter is actually the first chronologically and when combined with the authors note at the end actually give a great and funny conclusion.
With a sinking feeling, I discovered that the language is going to shock many club members to whom it will seem very vulgar. Turns out majority of the characters mentioned bear insignificant contributions to the plot. Just love this book.

About 10 million copies of his novels have been sold to date, and are becoming increasingly popular in the UK and North America. This is actually a very funny book, and a very cleverly constructed one too.
In addition, The Brewer of Preston is based on a real incident that took place around this time in Caltanissetta, a town not far away from Agrigento and Porto d’Empedocle, the sites of Camilleri’s fictional birtaio of Montelusa and Vigata, respectively. Loaded with clever, and often satirical, writing, Camilleri reveals tempestuous political scheming and double crossing, murder, infidelity, police corruption, anarchy, organised crime – and above, the Sicilian style of justice.
For the story is basically one where the local populace feel they have been imposed upon for political motivations to host an unwanted opera on the opening night of their new theatre. Camilleri is in antic mood in this historical novel, which ends with It’s and the little Sicilian city of Vigata has a new theater. What are you doing? Credo che forse Camilleri lo faccia per poter rivedere la storia da vari punti di vista, aggiungendo umore adatto per diversi personaggi che comunque ‘vivono’ la stessa esperienza.
Another of Camilleri’s non-Montalbano books.
Non so se prfston consiglierei, non mi ha convinto del tutto questo libro. The only complain that I might have for “The Brewer of Preston” is the colossal volume of names. Originally from Porto Empedocle, Sicily, Camilleri began studies at the Faculty of Literature inwithout concluding them, meanwhile publishing poems and short stories. I expect this was a very hard book to translate owing to Camilleri’s apparently liberal use of dialect and puns, but Satarelli does his usual excellent job.
I went by the orders as suggested. Presotn there is an investigation why did the theatre burn on the reopening night? Set in s Sicily, the outsider governor is determined to inaugurate Vigata’s new opera house with a bad opera, and the locals are just as determined to disrupt the performance, if not prevent it entirely.
The chapters, which introduce us to an eclectic and eccentric cast of characters, are presented in no particular order – in fact we are told to read them in whatever order we like! Please pray for me. As it is, political and personal forces combine and clash to create major problems in Vigata, leading to several unnecessary deaths.
Andrea Camilleri lets us have the full force of his sarcastic, sardonic humor in this delightful book.
